“세상은 정말 정방향으로 나아가고 있는가? 우리는 왜 비슷한 비극을 반복하는가”

1961년, 대학생 우현은 한국전쟁 당시 실종된 큰 형 희택이 살아있을지도 모른다는 희망을 품고 계속해서 그의 행방을 찾는다. 우현에게 희택은 죽었으니 미련을 버리라는 작은 형 윤섭. 그러나 그 역시 과거를 놓지 못한 것은 마찬가지이다. 윤섭의 아내 주희는 전쟁 후유증으로 신경쇠약증에 시달리는 윤섭과 큰 형을 찾아다니는 우현에게 돌이킬 수 없는 일들에 붙들리지 말라고 다정히 이야기한다. 어느 날, 우현의 학과 선배 인경이 우현에게 찾아와 한국전쟁 당시의 민간인 학살사건 증언 채록을 도와달라 한다. 그리고 숨겨진 진실이 서서히 드러나기 시작하는데.

잊혀지고 지워진 이름 없는 약속들, 그 잔해 위에 다시 세워지는 ‘우리’의 이야기

In 1961, university student Woo-hyun holds onto hope that his eldest brother Hee-taek, missing since the Korean War, is still alive, and continues searching for him. Yoon-seop, Woo-hyun’s younger brother, urges him to move on, insisting that Hee-taek is dead. Yet Yoon-seop himself cannot let go of the past. Yoon-seop’s wife, Joo-hee, gently advises both Yoon-seop — who suffers from war-related neurosis — and Woo-hyun — who is searching for their eldest brother — not to dwell on what cannot be undone or to be held back by things that can’t be changed. One day, Woo-hyun’s senior In-kyung approaches him for help recording testimonies about civilian massacres during the Korean War. Gradually, the hidden truth begins to emerge.

From forgotten promises, the story of ‘us’ rises anew from their remnants.
